Former Producing Artistic Director 13th Street Repertory Co., NYC Classical Theater Ensemble - Co-founder Playwright Literary Agent Sandra has been involved in both theater and film production since 1980. She was Corporate Comptroller for Unitel Video Services, a major film editing and mobile production company, in NYC and Corporate Comptroller for NYC's Broadcast Arts, a mixed-media, live-action, animation, and stop-motion production company. While at Broadcast Arts, she was Production Auditor for the CBS-TV series "Pee-wee's Playhouse" as well as for TV specials and pilots shown on CBS, ABC, NBC, HBO, and Showtime. In 1981, Sandra co-founded the Classical Theatre Ensemble, producing classical theater at NYC historical landmarks, most notable the 500-year-old medieval morality play Everyman, produced in the knave of NYC's Cathedral of St John the Divine, the world's largest Gothic cathedral. As Producing Artistic Director at 13th Street Repertory Co. Sandra produced the following, all by new American playwrights: - well over 100 full-length plays - 11 short play festivals for a total of 76 short plays - over 175 readings in her New Works Reading Series - 14 script development workshops In 2003 she developed the New Works of Merit Playwriting Contest, an international contest seeking socially conscious scripts that not only entertain, but enlighten and promote new awareness. Sandra learned the craft of writing at NYC's New School University and NYU. She is currently collaborating with Rudy Gray, turning Conversation with a Kleagle into a screenplay. Her adaptation of A Christmas Carol is published by Brooklyn Publishers in Odessa TX and Christian Publishers. The play was translated into French by Christian Palustran and into German by Christian Michalak. The French/English volume is published in France and may be purchased on amazon.com.fr. The play had 15 NYC productions and numerous productions around the U.S. and Puerto Rico and was performed in Switzerland at the Atelier-Theatre, "Les compagnons du Coteau" in Paris-France, in Lyon-France and in Belgium. Review from NYTheatre: "There are only two versions of A Christmas Carol that are a must-see: the production at Madison Square Garden and Sandra Nordgren’s adaptation!” Her radio-play adaptation of A Christmas Carol aired 24 times on Christmas Day - 2010 on GrayceNYCRadio.com. Among other theatrical plays, Sandra co-wrote a full-length play in quadrameter, Old Witch Blinda on Smeltzburg Hill, which is in workshop development. Her play The Flower was part of the Vision and Voices Short Play Festival in NYC. The Ice Cream Man Cometh .. Profit or Madman, You Decide, which she co-wrote, had three NYC productions. Sandra has critiqued over 3,500 scripts and is presently editing two books. Since 2003, Sandra has recruited and mentored nearly 500 interns through all phases of theater: playwriting, script evaluating, acting, directing, stage management, producing, lighting, sound, arts administration, accounting, marketing, public relations, etc. NYCinternships.weebly.com To help those affected by the World Trade Center tragedy, Sandra was on FEMA's Volunteer Organizations Against Disaster Task Forces for Spirituality and Mental Health. Sandra received a Certificate of Appreciation from Morris Dees, founder of the Southern Poverty Law Center, for educating and fostering tolerance and social justice through the arts. Her name was added to the Wall of Tolerance in Montgomery, Alabama "for her important contribution to the ongoing fight against hatred and intolerance in America."
